The Border Security Force (BSF) HQ Frontier, Guwahati during a press release informed that the BSF in the year 2020 has seized around 25,000 cattle heads worth Rs. 40 crores and also apprehended more than 277 poachers.
They also informed that BSF had seized illegal drugs worth more than Rs. 22 crores along the International border. The narcotics include Yaba tablets, Phensedyl cough syrups, and abortion tablets.
Dhubri and South Salmara, two districts of Assam and Cooch Behar of West Bengal fall under the jurisdiction of Guwahati Frontier of BSF. These three districts share around a 500 km border with Bangladesh and a total of 11 BSF Battalions have been deployed in these border areas.
Among the 277 poachers arrested, 32 are of Bangladesh origin and the rest 245 are Indians. This information was confirmed by the Inspector General of BSF (Guwahati Frontier) Rajesh Kumar.
He also stated, “there are several border outposts in the Char areas along the Indo-Bangladesh border. During the rainy season, floods and avalanches are common and action against illegal activities becomes more difficult. Still, we are carrying our duty against all these type of illegal activities along the International border, our patrolling teams are on alert the whole 24 hours.”
