The political scenario of Manipur is warming up ahead of the assembly elections in the state as National People Party’s (NPP) Letpao Haokip has joined the Bharat Janata Party (BJP).
This is a huge setback for NPP as Haokip was the sports minister of the state.
He joined the BJP officially on Wednesday in New Delhi despite NPP being an ally of the BJP in Manipur and Meghalaya.
The development comes a day after Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP’s national president Conrad Sangma concluded his Manipur visit.
It is worth mentioning that the number of NPP MLAs in the state has come down to three.
