Indian Army rescues over thousand tourists in Sikkim

The Indian Army rescued over a thousand tourists who had been stuck in the upper reaches of East Sikkim near the China Border at Nathu La following heavy snow on Saturday.

The Black Cat Division of the army posted in the area made the rescue. The army shifted the tourists to the Military camp located near 17 Mile and provided them with accommodation, food, warm clothing, and medical assistance.

Approximately, 1027 tourists in 120 vehicles were stranded in a stretch of 15 kilometres.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Sikkim government has decided to not issue any permits for Changu and beyond Yumthang till the heavy snowfall rests.
