Amid the India-China standoff in the Ladakh sector along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Red Dragon country has constructed at least 3 villages at about 5 kilometers from the Bum La pass.
The Bum La pass lies close to the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction in Western Arunachal Pradesh.
The new construction of the villages will be a significant step towards China’s aim at reinforcing its territorial claims along the Arunachal Pradesh frontier.
New satellite images presented by the ‘Planet Lab’ organization showed the presence of only one village till 17 February with about 20 houses. However recent images on 28 November show the construction of three more enclaves each containing almost 50 houses. Each enclave was built strategically at a distance of 1 kilometer from each and inter-connected with properly build concrete roads.
According to Dr. Brahma Chellaney, an expert in China said, “China has been using a strategy of settling Han Chinese and Tibetan members of the Communist Party along the India border to strengthen its territorial claims and escalate border intrusions.”
