The previous UPA government did not pay any attention to the North-East. The process of development in the North-East has started only since 2014. This comment was made by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The minister made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the Agartala BJP office in Tripura on Tuesday, strongly criticizing the Congress government at the Centre earlier.
The development made possible in various sectors of the region only after Narendra Modi had formed his government, he added. The Union Minister alleged that the Congress government had neglected the North-East.
The states of the North-East region have been able to show their capabilities and strength and are able to shine themselves on the map of India. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also said that Prime Minister Modi has called the North East the ‘Ashtha Lakshmi‘ of India.
North-East contains all kinds of resources today, the former ex-CM of Assam added.
The Union Minister further affirmed that among other North-Eastern states, Tripura is also growing rapidly in many sectors. The Tripura government led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has made substantial progress in many fields due to which is rapidly adding to the growth of the economy.
