Mizo National Front (MNF)and the Congress have joined hands to assume the power in Mizoram’s 25 member Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) to keep out the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)that emerged as the single largest party in earlier this month.
Siaha district in South Mizoram voted in the MADC elections on May 5. According to it’s results BJP emerged as the largest party which won 12 seats . The MNF ,which is in power in Mizoram won 9 seats and Congress won 4. So MNF decided to join hands with Congress .
The MNF Vice President Vanlalzawma said “We have joined hands with Congress members and the decision was approved by MNF leadership. As part of the deal , Congress will get the post of Chief Executive member while MNF will get the deputy CEM position”.
There was a clear directive form of Congress state unit to not to support neither BJP nor MNF But they still went ahead with MNF.
