Every day the new Covid19 variant Omicron positivity rises alarmingly in India. Omicron Covid-19 variant cases jumped by 309 in the last 24 hours, taking the number total to 1270. It is the biggest one-day jump in Omicron cases in India. The variant has now spread to 23 states and Union Territories. Maharastra (450) has reported the highest number of cases among all other states.
Assam also witnessed the first Omicron case on 30th December at Dibrugarh University. Three students who had recently returned from South Africa tested positive for the strain.
