On Monday, PM Narendra Modi reviewed the issue of OBC and EWS reservation in the all-India medical education quota.
There has been a long-standing demand to include OBC reservations in the All India Quota (AIQ) of medical education. Several litigations have also been made in the various courts of the country but the issue is pending for a long time.
Presently, 15% of undergraduate and 50% of postgraduate seats in State Government Medical colleges are earmarked as All India quota. For admission, SC and ST have a reservation in this quota, but there is no reservation for OBCs.
According to government sources, the PM expressed his desire in the meeting that concerned ministries may resolve the issue of OBC reservation in the All India Quota of medical education out of court, and on priority.
