Prominent Assamese litterateur Lakshmi Nandan Bora breathed his last at a private hospital in Guwahati on Thursday morning.
A former President of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Lakshmi Nandan was 89 years old when he breathed his last.
The prominent Assamese writer penned many awards-winning novels including ‘Kayakalpa’ and ‘Patal Bhairavi’.
He was also a recipient of the Sahitya Academy Award and Saraswati Samman. Lakshmi Nandan Bora was also honored with Padma Shri in 2015 by the Government of India.
The prominent writer and novelist was born on June 15, 1932, at Hatichung, Nagaon district.
He did his schooling at Nagaon High School and graduated in physics from erstwhile Cotton College (Now Cotton University). He was a post-graduate in physics from Presidency College, Kolkata. He pursued doctoral studies in meteorology at Andhra University.
Lakshmi Nandan Bora was the first person to be awarded a doctoral degree in meteorology by the university.
Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief on the Assamese Novelist’s demise.
“I am saddened by the demise of the eminent writer, educationist, and former Assam Sahitya Sabha President Lakshmi Nandan Bora. His demise is an irreparable loss to our national life.
My deepest condolences to Bora’s bereaved family and wish him peace of soul forever.” Sarbananda Sonowal wrote on his Twitter page.
