The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Ripun Bora on Thursday demanded an enquiry into the PM Kisan Scheme scandal in Assam. Assam shot into infamy after the creation of 8.35 lakh ineligible beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN scheme across the state were reported. The government has to recover Rs 554.01 crore from these ineligible beneficiaries.
A statement released by the APCC stated that a sum of Rs 6,000 (Rupees Six Thousand) per farmer was granted under Pradhan Mantri Kishan Sanman Nidhi (PMKSN) scheme all over the country for the financial year 2019- 20. Assam government selected approximately 36 lakh farmer-beneficiaries under this scheme as per the statement of the state agriculture minister in the review meeting held at Guwahati on July 5, 2021.
Ripun Bora further said, “This is a serious scam and the question arises how the money sanctioned for poor farmers can be distributed to undeserving persons?” Bora also demanded that the Government of India order a CBI enquiry into this scam of selecting and disbursing funds to 11.72 lakh ineligible farmers and another 5 lakh farmers who are not in existence in the fields. He demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in this scam.
Earlier in a review meeting, Assam Agriculture Minister admitted that out of 36 lakh beneficiaries only 19.47 lakh were found genuine and 11.72 lakhs were not genuine at all and that they were not entitled to get the Rs 6000 under PMKSN as per the guidelines.
