Increasing numbers of covid cases among children, the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) has asked the state health department to set up pediatric Covid ICUs in all districts.
A team of the commission visited the districts of Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Nagaon to review the situation of Covid affected children from June 30 to July 2 respectively to take stock of the situation of children infected with Covid-19 in these districts.
Meanwhile, the team of ASCPCR recommended that the number of ICU for children should be increased. Child-friendly ward for Covid 19 positive children with the arrangement of staying mother or caretaker together to take care of the child.

However, The Commission has also submitted a set of recommendations to health minister Keshab Mahanta.
The ASCPCR has also asked the health minister to take immediate steps to ensure that the children who are hospitalized due to COVID-19 are provided with nutritious food and medicines.
Adding the commission also said, “Counselling services should also be provided to mothers, caretakers of children who may be staying with the child admitted in the hospital.”
