On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed that the population growth rate amongst the Muslim community as per the 2001 and 2011 census report remained static at 29%, however, the population growth rate in the Hindu community declined from 16% in 2001 to 10% in 2011.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister in the house also mentioned that the lifestyle of the Hindus in Assam has changed after declining in population growth to 10%. Against that, with 29% population growth rate amongst the Muslim community has compelled them to encroach in forest lands and government lands.
Population explosion is the root cause of economic disparities and poverty among minority Muslims in Assam.

However, during the question hour of the ongoing state assembly, Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu informed that the state government has taken up a process to establish nine women colleges in minority-dominated areas of the state.
Informing more on this minister said, “Of the nine women colleges, land allotment letters for seven colleges have already been issued.”
