Amid concerns over the law and order situation in Sivasagar district, the additional district magistrate Bitupan Neog on Thursday imposed section 144 of the CrPC.
The restrictions will remain in force for the next 60 days or until further notice.
According to a notification, gatherings of five or more people in public places, meetings, taking out procession /dharna/rally by a group of persons or organizations, affixing posters/banners of any kind in any wall/ boundary wall of Govt. /semi Govt./Private resident etc. and writing obscene/ incriminatory words and slogans are strictly prohibited during this period.
The district administration has also prohibited pillion riding in two-wheelers citing the likelihood of anti-social and extremist activities, shootings, killings, kidnappings or extortion. However, people above 60 years of age, children under 12 years of age, women, government officials and police personnel are exempted from the ban.
The administration has also banned the production and sale of plastic carry bags of less than 50 microns. The sale of gutkha pan masala and other tobacco products in the entire district has been prohibited.
Night curfew has been imposed on the Assam-Nagaland border as a precautionary measure to prevent the occurrence of extremist activities and anti-social activities.
The movement of any individual or group and motor vehicle within a radius of 5 km from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am is prohibited at the border.
If any person violates the prohibitory order, action under section 188 of the IPC will be taken against the violators.
