Vaccine allocation to Assam should be increased: CM

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today attended the video conference convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Chief Ministers of 8 Northeast states on the COVID19 situation.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma thanked the Prime Minister for his support towards the NE states during both the waves of the pandemic. Saying that Assam is performing well in this fight against COVID19, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of containing the pandemic in tea garden areas of the state and informed about the efforts taken to vaccinate the tea garden population at the earliest along with other measures.

The Chief Minister also informed about the status of medical oxygen production, ICU beds, oxygen beds, isolation wards as part of the COVID19 treatment infrastructure in the state. He requested the Prime Minister to increase the allotment of vaccines to Assam so that the vaccination target for the entire population can be achieved at the earliest.

The Chief Minister said that Assam Government has followed the ‘Testing-Tracking-Treatment’ strategy of the Prime Minister and managed to contain the pandemic by declaring more than 6000 micro-containment zones without going for total lockdown. Both economy and COVID fight were sustained simultaneously, he said.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Assam’s positivity rate would be brought down to below 1% at the earliest.
