Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty on Thursday has been accorded with “Y+” category security by the Centre.
The actor recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to reports, the security cover will be provided by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). CISF has a dedicated wing for this task, called the Special Security Group (SSG).
The actor joined the BJP on Sunday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
According to a senior officer, Chakraborty has been given ‘Y+’ cover and armed CISF commandos will accompany him during poll campaign in West Bengal.
While joining the BJP party, Chakraborty said that his dream came true by sharing a stage with PM Modi.
“I always had a dream to work for the poor, downtrodden. Now, it is seen as being fulfilled,” he stated on Sunday.
Actor Mithun Chakraborty aged 70 was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2014. However, he resigned from the position in 2016 citing health reasons after his name surfaced in the Saradha ponzi scam.
Election to the 294-member West Bengal assembly will be held in eight phases between March 27 and April 29.
