Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, declared on Saturday that his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will win a “historic victory” in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections and become a “national” political party.
Congratulating party workers on the AAP’s 10th anniversary, Kejriwal said the party has created “many histories” in Indian politics since its inception on November 26, 2012, and has become “a new hope” for the people of the country.
“The Aam Aadmi Party was formed 10 years ago on this day. In these 10 years, the party created many histories in Indian politics with the immense love of the public and the hard work of the workers,” Kejriwal, the party’s national convenor, said in a series of tweets.
According to him, the AAP has given the people of the country new hope and gained their trust.
“With yet another historic victory, the AAP is going to become a national party very soon,” he stated.
The AAP is betting big in poll-bound Gujarat, riding high on its stunning victory in the Punjab Assembly elections earlier this year. It has run candidates in all 182 Assembly seats in the BJP-ruled state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress were the main contenders in Gujarat until the 2017 Assembly elections.
The state is set to witness a three-cornered poll contest this time, with the AAP joining the fray with its high-decibel campaign.
The Kejriwal-led party is hoping to gain a foothold in the state by winning several seats in the December 1 and 5 elections.
According to the rules, a political party is designated as a “State Party” if it receives 6% of the vote and two seats in a legislative assembly.
If a party obtains “State Party” status in four states, it automatically becomes a “National Party.”
In Delhi, Punjab, and Goa, the AAP is recognised as a “State Party.”
It will be labelled a “National Party” if it receives 6% of the vote and two seats in Gujarat.
