News Desk: Assam State Election Commission plans to hold Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) polls by following measures and guidelines of COVID-19 related protocols.
Auxiliary polling stations are to be set up to maintain social distancing norms for the avoidance of any unnecessary gatherings and timely completion of the polling process.
The Commission has dashed off letters to the deputy commissioners of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri along with the SDO(C) of Gossaigaon, Parbatjhora, Bijni, Salbari, Tamulpur, Bhergaon on July 21 to carry out a survey for setting up of auxiliary polling stations.
The bureaucrats must submit the assessment and report the commission back by August 6.
According to sources, the BTC polls are likely to be held in September -October.
Pramod Boro led United People’s Party (UPPL) has fielded candidates in all the 40 seats.
BTC polls will be held to elect 46 members the governor will nominate six members from non-represented communities.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded 26 candidates, Congress-AIUDF has jointly fielded 20 candidates while Naba Kumar Sarania-led Gana Surakha Party (GSP) is backing several independent candidates.
