Sarbananda Sonowal for the first time included in the BJP parliamentary board

There has been major reshuffle in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) parliamentary body on Wednesday with union minister and former BJP president Nitin Gadkari and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has dropped, who was inducted in 2014, from the board.

While former chief ministers BS Yediyurappa and Sarbananda Sonowal were included in the highest decision making body of BJP.

Others on the BJP Parliamentary Board list include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, Other Backward Classes (OBC) morcha president K Laxman, National Commission for Minorities chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura, former BJP vice president Sudha Yadav, former minister Satyanarayan Jatiya and National General Secretary B L Santhosh.

BJP chairman JP Nadda also reshuffled the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the party. The 15-member board now includes PM Modi, JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Sarbananda Sonowal, BS Yediyurappa, K Laxman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Sudha Yadav, Om Mathur, BL Santhosh, Satyanarayan Jatiya, Bhupendra Yadav, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP women wing chief Vanathi Srinivasan.

With Fadnavis and K Laxman’s inclusion in the list, it indicates at a promotion for the leaders.

According to sources, “ The party has tried to consider the diversity while revamping the board. There is evidently an emphasis on diversity. Sarbananda Sonowal is from the Northeast, L Laxman and BS Yeddyurappa hail from the South, and Iqbal Singh Lalpura is a Sikh,”

The Parliamentary Board is the governing body of Bharatiya Janata Party that takes day-to-day decisions on behalf of the national executive. The national executive sets up the highest decision-making body consisting of party president and ten other members. The board supervises the activities of the parliamentary and legislative groups of the party. It also guides and regulates all the organisational units below the national executive.
