13th June, Guwahati: The Swashbuckling Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi on Saturday afternoon took to Twitter to confirm that he has tested positive for COVID-19 becoming the first high- profile cricketer to be infected by this novel Coronavirus.
The 40 year old becomes the third Pakistani cricketer to be tested positive for COVID-19 after Taufeeq Umar and Zafar Sarfaraz.Taufeeq had announced his recovery a few days back. Majid Haq of Scotland and South Africa’s Solo Nqweni are the other cricketers to have tested positive for this dealy virus.
Afridi sought the blessings and prayers for his quick recovery. I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah,” Afridi tweeted.
The former Pakistan skipper has been doing social work during the COVID-19 pandemic via his ‘Shahid Afridi Foundation’. He has helped thousands of poor people with ration and other essential supplies for the last couple of months.
The 40 year old veteran recently faced flake for his comments on India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir(POK). Shahid Afridi represented Pakistan in 27 tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20 internationals between 1998 and 2018.He scored 1716, 8064 and 1416 runs in tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.
