Neeraj Chopra, Olympic gold medal-winning javelin thrower steps down ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth games due to injury. according to reports, he had injured his groin during the World Championship final in Eugene, USA, on Saturday. He underwent a MRI scan the following day and was subsequently advised one-month rest by the doctors.

Chopra creates history by becoming the only second Indian individual athlete to win SILVER MEDAL for INDIA in javelin throw at the World Athletics Championship. He won the silver with a clutch 88.13m throw on his fourth attempt. He ended the 19-year long wait as an Indian to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship.

The 24-year-old athlete was set to be India’s flag-bearer during Thursday’s opening ceremony. The Birmingham Commonwealth Games is set to begin from July 28 and will conclude in August 8.
