The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has installed Automatic Fire Detection and Alarm Systems on train coaches and stations to prevent fires. As power cars and pantry cars are more vulnerable to fire, NF Railway equipped 98 power cars and 38 pantry cars, as well as 230 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) AC coaches, with a fire detection system.
Moreover, this year, 20 LHB AC coaches received state-of-the-art fire detection and auto stoppage systems. In the event of a fire, this system will halt the train. Furthermore, 1,695 non-AC coaches on the NF Railway have been outfitted with fire extinguisher systems and anti-theft devices. This year alone, 395 non-AC coaches were equipped with the system.
Railway stations are also extremely vulnerable to fires. At stations, modern technology such as automatic fire detection and alarm systems in buildings have been installed. This year, the fire detection and alarm system was installed at six stations: Chongajan, Pancharatna, Dudhnoi, Krishnai, Goalpara Town, and Aujuri. To improve train operations and station safety, NF Railway will equip all air-conditioned coaches used for overnight journeys and stations with an early warning fire detection system.
