One of the most popular Indian actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu turned 35 today. Also (formerly) known as Samantha Akkineni after her marriage with Naga Chaitanya, Samantha started her carrer of acting from Telugu and Tamil films.
She made her acting debut in 2010 with Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Telugu romance film Ye Maaya Chesave. The film fetched her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South and a Nandi Award.
The year 2012 became her turning point as she starred the film Eega (Fly) or Makhkhi in Hindi. The film was a Telugu-Tamil bilingual project. The film received positive reviews and was one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year, earning ₹1.15 billion globally. And Samantha became the National sensation.
Some of the other films of Samantha are Dookudu (2011), Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2012) and Attarintiki Daredi (2013), AR Murugadoss’s Tamil action film, Kaththi (2014) and A Aa (2016), Theri (2016), 24 (2016), Mersal (2017), Rangasthalam (2018), and Mahanati (2018) . For the film A Aa she won her fourth Filmfare Award.
She began dating actor Naga Chaitanya in 2010 after appearing in the film Ye Maaya Chesave. She got married in Goa as per traditional Hindu customs on 6 October 2017 and then by Christian customs on the next day and became a member of the Akkineni family, the family of the legendary actor Nagarjuna. Since then she has been using her married name, Samantha Akkineni. Since July 2021, she removed her surname “Akkineni”, which led to speculations of her separation with Naga Chaitanya. Later, on 2 October 2021, they announced their separation and eventual divorce.
Yashoda is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language science fiction thriller film of SamanthaSamantha which is scheduled to release in August 12, 2022.
Samantha has also worked in Bollywood. She gave her cameo appearance in the film Ek Deewana Tha, which is based on her own debut film Ye Maaye Chesave.
