The Kashmir Files is not just a film but a truth. The film is based on the true event of “The Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus” – the displacement of the Hindus of Kashmir who also called “Kashmiri Pandits” from the Kashmir Valley in 1990.

1. The movie is about the Kashmiri Pandits. Anupam Kher who played the role of the Kashmiri Pandit Pushkar Nath Pandit himself is a Kashmiri Pandit. Who witnessed the genocide with his own eyes. Anupam Kher in an interview revealed it and cried and told about how terrorists threatened his maternal uncle of killing and later his uncle with his family taking all his earning into a Fiat car escaped and left the home he had built collecting every single penny he earned.
2.The character of the Pushkar Nath Pandit is not fully inspired by the real-life character. The character played by Anupam Kher is inspired by the various characters of Kashmiri Pandit.
3.The characters Bitta, Sharda Pandit, and Radhika Menon are fully inspired by real-life.
4. The character of Radhika Menon, is inspired by the JNU Professor Nivedita Menon, who is known for her controversial statement ‘India has illegally occupied the Kashmir’.
5.The character of Radhika Menon is played by Pallavi Joshi the wife of the director Vivek Agnihotri.
6. The film took 4 years to complete. The Sensor Board has removed 7 scenes from the movie among which a scene was the falling of the National Flag.

8. The Kashmir Files is not the only film which plots the Exodus of Kashmir Pandits, there is another film name Shikara which is a love story based on the Exodus of Hindus.
9. The character DGP Hari Narayan played by Puneet Issar. It was first casted to actor Yograj Singh but Vivek Agnihotri has replaced Yograj Singh from the movie over a controversial speech made by him on the farmers’ protests.
10. The name of the University JNU has been changed to ANU. When asked about changing the name of the university to ANU, Vivek Agnihotri replied, “There were a lot of arguments done on this aspect. Then, I realized that changing the university’s name from JNU to ANU is not going to dilute the essence of the film. Also, I didn’t want to unnecessarily surround myself with court cases. Hence, I decided to make the change.”
