An Assam Rifles sentry was wounded on Wednesday night when suspected insurgents lobbed a China-made hand grenade at the transit camp at North AOC in Imphal.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 7:50 pm when an unidentified scooter-borne person hurled the hand grenade.
The grenade exploded when the security guard, identified as Bimal Rai of 43 Assam Rifles, tried to defuse it. The jawan sustained an injury on his left arm, however, he is out of danger.
He was on Sentry Duty at the main gate of the camp.
This is not the first time that the Assam Rifles transit camp has been attacked in Imphal. So far, no individual or organization has claimed responsibility by the time of filing this report.
