With the advent of LHB coaches, Indian Railways’ old coaches are being pulled out of service. These vintage train coaches, which have been retired by the railways, have been converted into coach restaurants.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recently begun converting some of its vintage train coaches that are no longer in operation into eateries. NF Railway has already opened one such coach restaurant in Katihar, and another is nearing completion in the New Jalpaiguri station vicinity. Work on the establishment of 15 such coach restaurants in various places across the five divisions has also been completed.

The establishment of two coach restaurants, one each in Darjeeling and Jogbani of the Katihar division, has been completed. The Alipurduar division has completed the construction of seven coach restaurants, one each in New Coochbehar, New Alipurduar, Madarihat, Lataguri, Chalsa, Raja Bhat Khawa, and New Mal. The establishment of coach restaurants at Rangiya and Rangapara North in the Rangiya division, three in the Lumding division, two in Guwahati and one in Diphu, and one in New Tinsukia in the Tinsukia division has been completed.

Moreover, 43 places on the NF Railway have been chosen for the introduction of such coach eateries. Coach restaurants are being planned and construction is underway in six divisions: Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangiya, Lumding, and Tinsukia. The coach restaurants are constructed with an artistic and elegantly heritage style to attract tourists. People can have a fantastic time with their families and friends while dining on train coaches. According to a news release, the coach eateries would sell food, snacks, and beverages.
