With an aim to explore and understand the rich natural and cultural heritages of Assam and study the recent developmental strides happening in the State, a team of 13 senior journalists from Maharashtra – Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune will visit the State from 2nd to 4th November as part of a Media Tour organised by the Press Information Bureau.
The participating journalists arrived in Guwahati on 29th October 2023 and were greeted with traditional Assamese welcome. The team then moved to Meghalaya and visited various places and organisations as part of the tour.
During their tour in Assam, the journalists will visit different organisations and meet important changemakersin the State. The media team will start their tour in Assam with a visit to MaaKamakhyaTemple, which is one of the connected historic temples under ‘Riverine Based Religious Tourism Circuit’ under Government’s Sagarmala Programme. The journalists team will then have an interaction with Assam Tourism Department followed by an interaction with DGP Assam Police.
The media team will also visit Sualkuchi, the place famous for hand-woven technique used to make traditional silk textiles of Assam. The media team is also scheduled to have interaction with North Eastern Handicrafts& Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC).
The media team will also interact with the State Health Department and tour the new AIIMS Guwahati facility. The journos will also be briefed about the challenges faced by the Forest Department in their anti-poaching activities at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Media Tour envisions to provide an opportunity to understand the various Government initiatives being undertaken in the north-eastern states of Meghalaya and Assam. Such interaction will sensitize the journalists towards local conditions, socio-economic and political state of affairs and developmental efforts of the Government. It is hoped that through this tour, a long-term partnership is created between the media and Government departments in the two regions providing scope for further dialogue and exchange of ideas.
