On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2023, a National Level event will be organised by National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium, Guwahati tomorrow. Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI, along with Keshab Mahanta, Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam will inaugurate event.
As the theme of this year World AIDS Day 2023 is ‘Let Communities Lead’, the event aims at spreading awareness among the people about AIDS and destigmatize the myths revolving around the disease. The event will be attended by people living with HIV (PLHIV) communities, NGOs, CSOs, development partners and youth. Shri Avinash Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam, Ms. Nidhi Kesarwani, Director NACO, Mr. David Bridger. UNAIDS, Country Director will also be present.
During the event the Flagship report providing data-driven comprehensive progress across all components of NACP (National AIDS Control Programme) titled ‘SANKALAK’ will be launched. Along with this Technical report on India HIV estimates 2022, National Communication Strategy, Prevention Progress Update 2022-23 will be release. A blood donation camp and exhibition on ‘World AIDS Day’ will also be organised.
