RBL Bank, one of India’s leading private sector banks, under its CSR initiative -UMEED 1000, proudly announces the continuation of its commitment to supporting girl child education. The Bank has donated 300 bicycles to underprivileged girlchildren in Guwahati, Assam. The Bank held the donation drive in the presence ofSmt. Aruna Rajoria, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to Govt. of Assam, Agricultural Product Commissioner & Chairperson, ARIAS Society, Shri. Virendra Mittal, IAS, State Project Director, ARIAS Society, Govt. of Assam, Shri. Bhaskar Pegu, IAS, Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam, Gauri Shankar Das, ACS, Director – Fisheries, Assam, TrirangaBharatiya Bora Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Govt. of Assam, Dr Bibekananda Saikia, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Shri. Laxmi Narayan Nanda, Child Protection Specialist, North Eastern States, UNICEF and senior representatives from RBL Bank. The girls showed high enthusiasm as they assembled at Khanapara Sports & Cultural Organisation to receive the bicycles. The Bank identified the beneficiaries directly with the support of the ARIAS Society, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam.
One of the major reasons for children dropping out of School is distance. This initiative will provide the much-needed means of transport to increase access to education. The bicycles will help the girl-children go to school in a way that is both energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable. The Bank is distributing over 2000 bicycles and school- kits across India, including Guwahati, Patiala, Jaipur and Nagpur.
