International Theatre Institute (ITI) initiated in 1961 to celebrate World Theatre Day across the world.
It was done to depict the value and importance of theatre. On this day, ITI hosts a yearly message usually spoken by a chosen famous theatre performer.
They share their views about the art of theatre and its future.
In 1962, the first message was spoken by Jean Cocteau 1962.
This year the yearly message on World Theatre Day was given by Helen Mirren. Helen Mirren is one of the best-known and respected actresses with an international career on stage, screen, and television.

This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”. It also acts as a wake-up-call for governments, politicians, and institutions which have not yet recognized the value of theatres.
The day is celebrated as a wake-up call to the people and individuals who have not yet realized its potential for economic growth.
