The shocking news of eliminating the subjects Bihu has created a heated debate among the people of Assam. The Minister of Education, Assam Ranoj Pegu has recently announced that Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will eliminate the elective subject Bihu from the Higher Secondary syllabus. The decision created tension among the students.
Tension has created in Kaliyabar School as hundreds of students from the HS first year batch and more than fifty students from the second year batch chose the subject as their elective. The students along with the students councils has requested the Government of Assam not to eliminate the mentioned subject.
It may be recalled that the AHSEC had introduced the subject Bihu comprising theory and practical in the Higher Secondary course from 2020-21 academic session. Students who choose the subject as an elective would have to attempt the question paper of 100 marks.

It is also mentioned that the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has also seen being strict towards Bihu celebration in Assam. To organise Bihu, the Bihu committees are depended upon collecting donation (chanda). First The Assam Government’s decision of eliminating “Chanda collection” And then the elimination of the subject Bihu have somehow hurt the emotion of Assamese people.
