The newly constructed two-lane flyover at Arya Nagar (Sarabbhati) in Guwahati, which was built at a cost of Rs 149.07 crore, was officially opened by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, September 30.
Speaking at the event’s inauguration, CM Sarma noted that the flyover was finished faster than expected 19 months as opposed to the original objective of 30 months—and that it would ease traffic congestion, particularly between Arya Nagar and Lokhra Chariali.
The Chief Minister also commended PWD (Roads), M/s Hi-Tech Constructions, and all other project participants for finishing construction considerably earlier than expected.
CM Sarma also provided information about forthcoming and ongoing projects for Guwahati’s general development during the event.
- According to the Chief Minister, the 4-kilometre flyover at Maligaon, which is still under construction, will be finished by Durga Puja or at the very latest by Bohag Bihu in the following year (April 2023)
- He stated that the Zoo Road flyover would be finished by April 2024.
- It will take an additional 18 months to finish the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge.
- Once the work on the Zoo Road flyover is finished, CM Sarma added, work on a 6-kilometre flyover from Dighalipukhuri to Bamunimaidam will begin.
- Construction on the Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge over the Brahmaputra is expected to start in early 2023, according to him. The tendering procedure is now ongoing.
- The Chief Minister said that construction on a ring road connecting the national highways in Khanapara, Baihata, Sipajhar, Kuruwa, and Narengi will begin in August 2023. This would further improve communication.
- He also disclosed a scheme for a ropeway to link Khanapara and the LGBI Airport in Borjhar.
