New York: Illuminated image of Lord Ram, Ram temple, and Indian tricolour was displayed at the iconic Times Square in New York on Wednesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Indian diaspora in the US gathered in large number to celebrate the groundbreaking of the temple and said that it was a proud moment for them.
The digital display of Lord Ram is known to be one of the most expensive digital billboards at Times Square. The display lit up at 10 am and continued till 10 pm, while the laying of the temple’s foundation was ongoing.

Jagdish Sewhani, President American India Public Affairs Committee said, “It shows how successful Indians are in America that our Ram temple and tricolour are on the most iconic screen in the world. It is a proud moment for India and Indians.”
Notably, Indian-Americans celebrated the occasion by lighting diyas and taking out a tableau with digital images displaying the Ram temple across the US Capitol Hill.
After the ceremony, Modi termed the event as an “emotional moment” for the country and said that “every heart is illuminated today”.
Reportedly, Hindu community in the US organized virtual events to mark the importance of the occasion.
The completion of ‘Ram Mandir’ would take three years.
