The legendary singer Bappi Lahiri was also known as the Gold Man of India because of his massive collection of gold. Lahiri’s son Bappa Lahiri shared his spiritually attached to his gold. Along with gold, Bappi Lahiri had a collection of shoes, sunglasses, hats, watches and jewellery which would be preserved and showcased soon. They might be put in a museum as well.
Bappi Lahiri had an elaborate collection of gold pieces including chains, pendants, rings, bracelets, idols of Ganesha, charm bracelets encrusted with diamonds, even gold frames and gold cufflinks. All these pieces were kept safely in transparent cases and are part of the family heirloom. Bappi Lahiri personally took care of them, those were placed inside locked closets and cupboards of his house.
Lahiri’s son has also revealed what happened to that massive collection of gold.
“Th gold were not just fashion statement for dad, they were lucky to him. From Vatican city to Hollywood, he collected each of those gold pieces from around the world. He used to find something which he would like to wear and turned it into gold.” Said Bappa.
“He never travelled without it. Even if it was 5 A.M. flight, he would wear all the gold. It was like his temple and his power. He was spiritually connected with it. So we are going to preserve it. That was his most favorite thing. We want people to see his things, so we might put them into a museum.”
The veteran singer had a total of 754 grams of gold valued at a sum of Rs 38,71,790 lakh.
